I didn’t see the game; I had to go to work after the first period, but I looked up the score on my phone when I was on my break at about 8:30. My reaction: WHAT THE FUCK!?

You can bet there were some raised eyebrows… but seriously, the Sharks have been the best team all season. Everybody expected them to at least put up a fight. But since they were blown out by the Red Wings, I don’t care if they set the all-time record for points in a season, nobody is going to give them any chance in the postseason.

That last picture seems to defy physics somehow. Hmm, maybe the game did, too…

Hahahaha this made my somewhat somber day that much better. Thanks for the pick me up guys.

So What was it?

I missed the 1st period and listened to intermission on the way home on the radio. Baker seemed to like the way the Sharks were playing except 2 bad goals by Nabby. Then I get home and turn on the TV to hear Randy and Drew say the Wings dominated the whole game. Huh?

Listened to the radio call of the game while watching on tv. Maybe the LA or Columbus games should have been televised instead of this one. They did outskate and pressure Detroit early, probably the first 10 minutes of the game, but after that it was horrible.

The Sharks could not get within 5-10 feet of the Detroit defense, so there was really no way they could up the physical play. The Sharks defense had trouble dumping the puck deep because they could not get through the neutral zone, they could not even ice the puck a few times. The number of neutral zone turnovers was huge.

After the first three goals, you had the impression that the Sharks could still come back. Nabokov did not look shark on his second game of a back-to-back, but he has not looked sharp early before and SJ has scored enough to give him time to recover. The fourth goal was a back breaker. There was no energy at all after that.

You want to give the Sharks a mulligan, it was just 1 game out of 82, but this was a statement game for the rest of the league and that is the message you do not want to send. A message that you can be run over without much of a fight. In the minds of a lot of east coast and Canadian media, it will take a lot of work for the Sharks to regain that dominant image after this loss. A little odd that the previous meeting got so little attention.

Love the matador pic. Also the juxtaposition of “deadly historic disasters” with “goofy animals.” It points out the essential triviality of sports wins and losses.

I couldnt think of another disaster to use. A friend of mine tried to run with the bulls a few years ago, drank too much, and got injured a couple of hours before it even started. That was disaster enough for me.

Triviality is BOC’s middle name.
