Jean-Sebastien Giguere
Stats since being announced as the Western Conference All-Star starting goalie.
So I flipped on the Ducks game and saw Hiller in the net. I decided to look up some stats.
Jiggy's stats since being voted as the all-star game starter.
1 win, 3 losses, .853 SV%, 3.96 GAA
Hiller on the other hand has a stat line of:
2 wins, 3 losses, .916 SV%, 2.78 GAA
Giguere obviously isn't at 100%. He has no business going to the all-star game. He's not even the best goalie on his team right now. He should stay at home, nurse whatever injuries he may be playing through right now and let someone more deserving of it go.

Maybe it will be good for him to get some full-speed reps in that, in the end, won’t mean anything.
People who save up for a rainy day are like milk. And milk goes good with cookies, so you should have those people over for cookies.

Also
I think they need to NOT pull him after he lets one goal in, even if it is early. I don’t think it’s helping him mentally, and that’s the only thing holding him back, because we know he’s physically able to be great.

As a Sharks fan I don't mind seeing the Ducks falter.
It would be nice to see Jiggy play closer to what he’s capable though. He seems like a decent guy even though he’s on a team of all-round douchebags.

I suppose that the Sharks’ edge is that they keep their all-round douchebags in comments sections. Or name ’em Claude Lemieux.

If it helps them beat teams like the Islanders
I’m all for it.

Heh, you guys are stealing my thunder
Here’s the stats lines I had prepared:
Through 12/14, Giguere was 11-7-2 with a 2.86 GAA and a .913 save percentage. In 22 appearances, he had a save percentage of at least .900 on 13 occasions.
Since 12/23, Giguere has been 1-5-2 with a 3.68 GAA and a .876 save percentage. In 9 appearances, he had a save percentage of at least .900 on 1 occasion.
We know a few things happened in the window of 12/14 through 12/23 — his father passed away, his pal Selanne injured himself, and Giguere became a front-runner for the ASG starter spot. Obviously the first explanation probably has the most legs, but whatever Giguere’s demon is, hopefully a visit to Montreal will help him get over it.

And on that very same theme, I humbly present today’s PuckToon, which deals directly with Giguere’s on-ice struggles.
Also, my first attempt at trying to cartoon the likenesses of Todd McLellan and Mike Babcock — and I’m not displeased with either of them.
Enjoy!

Somewhat related
Swiss goalie Jonas Hiller did an interview with swisshockey.net after the loss to the Rangers this week.
You narrowly missed the cut for the 2006 Swiss Olympic team (which featured Aebischer and Gerber). Is your goal to start for Switzerland in the next Olympics?
Yeah definitely. I mean it’s a big goal but yeah, especially in Vancouver it would be awesome But it’s still quite far ahead. Right now I’m just concentrating on playing well here and going to the playoffs so I don’t have to play in the world championships in Switzerland in the spring.
Pretty good stuff.
