Schneider to Canadiens
(linked above)
Not really relevant to the BoC, but since he's an ex-Duck I thought it was worth a mention. Apparently the game tonight between Montreal and Washington will be his first in his return to the Canadiens.
Montreal also snagged a conditional draft pick in return for a pick later this year and one next year.
I think Montreal got the better end of this one - I'm not sure how Atlanta benefits from getting rid of Schneider besides halving the average age of the team.

Well, it’s missing the playoffs vs. missing the playoffs a little more cheaply. A choice our Ducks probably get to face increasingly quickly.
Montreal’s in a bit of trouble, though, so we’ll see if Schneider helps — with our luck, it’ll probably be him vs. Bertuzzi in the cup finals.

But how is that a benefit – Schneider’s a UFA at the end of the season anyway.
And my oh my is Montreal another team with an extreme amount of upcoming UFA’s
And while we’re at it, according to that site, they’re above the cap? Is that because its math doesn’t factor in pro-rated…ness?
People who save up for a rainy day are like milk. And milk goes good with cookies, so you should have those people over for cookies.

I’m way too unfamiliar with MTL’s contracts to know that, but Robert Lang is out for the year — there’s some ability to spend based on that.

Yeah, Lang probably covers it … also, they sent one of the Kostitsyn (probably butchered the spelling) brothers to the AHL so that had to help.
(Oh, and they’re probably getting rid of Kovalev so yeah)
Honestly, it might just be the Altanta effect, but Schneidermayer’s kind of sucked for much of this year. I think it’s actually a pretty steep price for Schneider, whose stay in ATL seemed pretty pointless.
Overall, it’s a wash. The Thrashers are still a lottery-caliber team and the Canadiens are far from done with their awful mess.
