Around SBN: Jim Irsay: We Can Make It Work With Peyton Manning

Well, this sounds pretty definitive, though I'll definitely take a deep breath once the trading bell rings. I don't necessarily blame contenders for not ponying up the assets to secure Captain Elbows, but it'll be funny to see some of them fall short of Stanley's glory this spring.

In the meantime, all this Pronger trade talk can take a couple-month break until June, when I'm sure hockey scribes will all assume once again that a trade has to happen. We shall see.

Now all I need is breaking news of a Sammy Pahlsson contract extension and my day will be complete.

Go Ducks.

a little surprised

i thought a team like the capitals or the devils or even phily might make the move to keep up with boston..having “assitant captian elbows” might pull them ahead or even with boston….

methinks maybe murray also got the feeling scotty is retiring…so he jacked up the price(smartly)

my roomate is grinning having kunitz on his team…amazing what kunie can do with skilled players…i thought about it..and come to the conclusion…that the ducks need more skill…i think we have a team full of kunitiz’s (bad hands, bangers)…so maybe kunie was expendable…

to add…i have to like the way ebbet has played..reminds me of any mac when andy mac was good….mike brown too..the guy is busting his ass out there..gotta love that..even though we dont much this..year..i thinkt he future is bright

Mirtle is pretty reliable

So I guess it’s worth noting that the Dallas Stars have claimed Brendan Morrison off waivers. The next Ducks/Stars game on Friday was already going to be interesting with the Moen/Ott aftermath.

Maybe they thought he was Brenden Morrow, but didn’t read the whole name?

Yeah, we may get something together, but for now, I suppose this will do. Stupid day job.

So long, Montador

OK, if I can sneak some time now I guess it’s time for a deadline post.

Anyways, Bruins acquire Montador for Nokelainen.

Sounds like a Finn (gasp!).

Whoa, is this guy the first European to join the team since Jonas Hiller?

Hope he and Teemu get along.

by g r a c e on Mar 4, 2009 11:33 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah, more or less. Wouldn’t it be shocking if somehow there were an all-Finn line of Nokelainen-Wirtanen-Selanne next year?

Brian Burke would roll over in his grave.

Who knows? I’ve never heard of the guy.

Numbers are underwhelming, but the kid is young.

One aspect: he might get along well with Travis Moen, seeing as he’s out with an “eye contusion”.

Here is a brief scouting report on Nokelainen, courtesy of the OC Register blog.

hehe

my guess is frankie and huskins are coming back…so they thought montador was expendable..

do the ducks get any cap relief etc.?

too bad i thought montador did an adequete job..took too many penalties though

More from Morrison than from Montador, that’s for sure. On an annual basis, B-Mo made $2.75M, while Montador was at $800k.

Yeah, we’ll see — Montador was high on my “hope they re-sign” list, but it’s possible he gets a good raise this summer.

Yeah, apparently so. Good thing I don’t know anything about prospects.

We’re told Atlanta has dealt Erik Christenson to Anaheim in exchange for prospect Eric O’Dell—the Ducks’ second pick, 39th overall, last year.

It turns out that this now is the absolutely last thing I hope to see today. Who knew?
