Chris Pronger or Rob Blake: Bigger asshole?
Prolly Pronger, i have no idea though, Blake doesn’t seem terrible

Jonas Hiller or Evgeni Nabokov: Who’s better?
This series it’s no question Hiller. But at the beginning of the season i’d have said Nab.

Griffin or Joe Thornton: better Invisible Man?
Meh

Dog Murray: Suspension?
No… i say BFD to that end shit that happened

Nobody cares about your opinion.

Agreed, it’s not worth suspending. I’m actually surprised we didn’t see any of this at the end of G1.

I agree that it wasn’t a bad crosscheck, but when you look at something like the Andre Roy suspension (nudging a guy in pre-game warmup), it’s hard to say that Murray WON’T get suspended. The NHL suspension standard this post-season is tied directly to the player’s enforcer status.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 24, 2009 11:50 AM PDT up reply actions

That seems a bit different, though, in that it wasn’t between whistles and I’m pretty sure in pre-game there’s no refs or linesmen about to (pretend to) keep peace.

I shouldn’t talk too much about the A. Roy suspension decision, though, as I never even saw it. I’ve been a bit one-series-focused this round.

Haha, haven’t we all?

I just think the NHL has gone out of its way to suspend enforcers, while goal-scorers are getting away with murder. I think Murray SHOULDN’T get suspended, but I can’t predict what the hell the NHL will do this postseason.

Yeah Cammaleri should have been suspended for his face off cheap shot.

I Just Have to Say

I looked at the score twice. I love playoff hockey but some live band downtown was more important. I’m one game closer to LMAO. Awesome. And thanks, BOC, for being a wonderful playoff host for the wayward team’s fans.

An ounce of confidence can carry you a mile toward winning. Oh, and Red Wings suck.

by texacogirl on Apr 23, 2009 10:53 PM PDT reply actions

1. C’mon
2. Easily Pronger, unless its to their own home fans
3. I’ve long thought Nabokov was the Giguere to Hiller’s Toskala (If thats not clear, I think Hiller and Toskala are better). He’s fine if the defense is playing great but when they need help he’s not that strong.
4. I think Joe Thornton is counting the minutes until he can get away from pressure and go home.
5. No, the cross check was not as bad as the ensuing donnybrook.

by Nut on Apr 23, 2009 11:25 PM PDT reply actions

Great game, the crowd was better.

RK I am curious, who would you chose for #1

by Mike in OC on Apr 23, 2009 11:33 PM PDT reply actions

LOL, Love the caption on the pic!

1.) Effin – no question
2.) Pronger – which is exactly why I love him
3.) Hiller…he’s only getting better
4.) Never heard of em…
5.) If he is suspended…I think that means tonight was his last game…right?

Fantastic caption, I’m sure thats exactly what SBN intended the pics for too.

Nabby has never been as good as a lot of people think he is. Hes remarkably inconsistent, and he has a major propensity for soft goals, getting beat five hole, and making big saves on breakaways. The Red Wings philosophy on goaltending has always been that once you get outside of those top 5-ish goalies or so, you’re looking at a pretty small performance difference between the next 15-20 guys, but huge price differences. I think Nabby is a perfect example of that. He’s getting paid like Lundquist or Luongo, but he ain’t that good.

There is no bigger asshole on the planet than Chris Pronger.

aww you’re just all pissy cause Prongs is a Wing-killer. He’s due for another Wing-killing this year.

Well, I had the same opinion of him back when he and the Blues provided annual cannon fodder for the Big Red Machine. Of course, I’m definitely very much afraid that you’re right, because the way the Ducks are playing, they could definitely knock off the Wings.

It probably makes me a terrible person, but me and my roommate pretty consistently bring up the time that Dmitri Mironov dropped Chris Pronger with a slapshot to the chest that made his heart skip a beat or something. Of course, thats the only memorable thing Mironov ever did either.

Well, it ain't all doom and gloom over here.

Not touching Cheechew’s post though. Also not all gloaty. For that, you have my thanks.

So can anyone tell me why it is that every time anyone mentions Bobby Ryan on tv, they mention who he was drafted after? Is that a clause in his contract or something? Can’t a guy be good on his own merit, and not good just because omghewasraftedaftercrosby?

Ten years from now that may well be the only thing I remember with clarity about this series.

I watched a lot of away feeds for Ducks games during the regular season, and it was mentioned without fail then, too. It gets old after the first dozen times, but then you get used to it. But I have to admit that it’s certainly easier for Ducks fans to tune out the constant reminders. I mean, with the way that kid scores, who the hell cares what other people are saying about him?

by g r a c e on Apr 24, 2009 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions

err…sorry, that might have been too gloaty. Bottom line is that the constant “drafted after Crosby” reminders are annoying. Hopefully they’re on their way to extinction. There’s so much else to say about the guy.

by g r a c e on Apr 24, 2009 11:56 AM PDT up reply actions

not gloaty, the kid is good

I just don’t think his draft spot matters nearly as much as his on ice production. The line is getting a little old.

I think everyone in themedia refered to him like that PRIOR to this season because he had done nothing, but the reference was to illustrate he SHOULD have potential, but is unproven.

Those people should now quit doing it because Ryan is casting his own shadow, but that is pretty recent (this season) news, and to be honest, I think most of the writers refering to him that way do not even watch hockey. The ones that do, I am sure do not watch Ducks hockey. So all they have seen so faw is 6 highlight reels and now recently a calder vote.

It will go away eventually, I hope. Maybe in few years they will start refering to Crosby as the guy taken BEFORE Bobby Ryan. That is my hope.

That would be awesome. Crosby might have to move away from the east coast to fall that far out of favor, though.

Heh. He’d have to defect over to the KHL before he fell that far out of favor.

I’m pretty sure Earl is right, I bet if Crosby went to the Kings we wouldn’t hear about him anymore.

Not that I hear about him anyway, it’s always Malkin and Ovechkin now.

Nobody cares about your opinion.

So long as that talk doesn’t propel the kid to the front of the Calder Trophy race, I’ll agree. :)

He can’t be propelled to the front of the race. That would require hockey writers to stay awake past 10pm EST.

Just thinking about that earthquake thing…it does wonders for Effin. That night he got the hat trick in LA, there was an earthquake…

Scores 2 goals in game 4 and there was an earthquake.

It’s good mojo for the kid!

I feel terrible wishing an earthquake on the Bay Area, but maybe just a little one tonight? Like a 3.0 or so. Not enough to do any damage, except to finish off the Sharks postseason.

All joking aside (because, really, that was a joke, hockey gods!), I would love to see Teemu score a goal tonight. And maybe one from the 3rd line, too. Marchant had a couple of golden opportunities in Game 4. If only he could find some good, kind fairy to turn his hands from stone to flesh for this postseason…

Good morning everyone

Just have to report that the FTF/BoC meeting went smoothly, and we are all (technically) alive today, though I don’t expect to see anything from O’Brien, Spade, or Plank until much later in the day. On an overall, we all got along swimmingly, though I think it became an automatic catch-phrase to say “Shut the fuck up, James.”

O’Brien and Spade in particular were awesome, in that after the game they had no idea how, who, or why, the first two goals were scored. I think Spade thought it was a scoreboard misprint.

Coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Bobby Ryan or Anze Kopitar: Ryan

Chris Pronger or Rob Blake: Blake is just grouchy compared to Pronger. a real asshole gets himself suspended in two separate playoff rounds, including the final.

Jonas Hiller or Evgeni Nabokov: Hiller

Griffin or Joe Thornton: at least Griffin hit people while he was invisible.

Dog Murray: nah. he’s no Pronger. there are bigger fish to suspend on the Ducks.
