Why Is Rob Niedermayer Still Unemployed?
Jonathan Willis at theScore.com is writing a series of posts looking at NHLers without jobs this spring, and had me write up a quick scouting report on the unsigned Niedermayer brother, Rob.
Take a look at what I had to say, good and bad, about Rob, plus Willis then presents an analytical look at the player.
We both come away scratching our heads a bit -- why is Rob Niedermayer still unemployed? Feel free to offer your thoughts or theories in the comments, here or there.

Your article seems to have brought a bit of luck, Sleek, because it looks as though Rob might not remain unemployed for too much longer.

Yeah, the real key is here, from your link:
Sources say Niedermayer has received some interest from NHL teams, but none of the offers have been considered financially worthy.
Basically, Rob thinks he’s worth as much without Scott as he is with Scott — most everyone else I think knows better.

The rule for drafting brothers
I remember when Rob was drafted so high. They had concerns about his hands but it was hoped the family genes and “hockey sense” had rubbed off.
I think the rule for drafting brothers is: If the first one is really good, you are already overrating the second one. If the first one is just sort of average, you may have a gem in the second one.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.

And in a weird reversal of fate, Rob Niedermayer signs with the (gasp) Devils.
