Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Hey! Look at Me! I'M IMPORTANT!!!

495px-thomasferebee_medium

I did a hockey questionnaire for capschick over at View From the Cheap Seats.  Read it so you can find out my favorite players from every team in the league, or how the greatest moment of my entire life happened when I was 8 years old.  Here's an excerpt:

What will Jeremy Roenick’s next career move be?
Dying, hopefully.

dude were joined at th hop as far as sports teams go except hockey..

i think aaron corp starts game 2…he might be more hurt than there letting on..or agaisnt an inferior team san jose st.(next to an inferior hockey team yuck yuck) there almost giving barkley a chance to shine and take the job…i think he falters but still wins and corp takes over game 2 against ohio state

i like the division re-alignments..but how is colordo not in the “mountation” division…reminds me of the old alanta braves in the “west” division

and how was corey perry not on your list of ducks to have hehe

I don’t know, the indication is that Barkley is starting game 1 and I see no reason Carrol would yank him after 1 start. I think we’ll see Barkley at least through the Washington game; if he sucks, then Caroll might put in Corp against Wash. St. to give him a warm-up before Cal and Notre Dame.

Great job!

Great job on that questionnaire Rudy.

As far as the division alignment, I agree with you mostly there, except Colorado definitely belongs in the Mountain and Phoenix back in the Pacific.

And I still think Detroit and Columbus belong in the East. Granted that would leave too many teams in the East, but who cares? Adding those two teams definitely would make them a more competitive conference.

What will Jeremy Roenick’s next career move be?

Seems to me that JR, Anson Carter, and Glen Healy are all jobless. Even though hardly anybody remembers this, they could reprise their roles in the short-lived commercial-sitcom “Rooming with Roenick”.

Nobody minds that I said Getzlaf is the most overrated player in the league? Huh.

The West Coast is the Best Coast.

by RudyKelly on Sep 4, 2009 7:46 AM PDT reply actions

Well, it’s probably impossible to hold that title playing on the west coast, but there’s certainly a lot of hype about Getzlaf, who’s more or less dominant when he wants to be. Seems weird that he’s sort of a shoo-in for Team Canada; hope they have a good penalty kill.

Certainly not overrated by VERSUS or NBC, though.

by Earl Sleek on Sep 4, 2009 8:10 AM PDT up reply actions

Getzlaf overrated

yeah, I really could not think of a better choice. Sedins, or maybe or Hossa? Crosby is overrated, but then again Gretzky would by overrated with the amount of hype Crosby gets.

Great read RK.

Daniel Sedin is totally overrated; he’s been riding Henrik’s coattails for years now. :)

I thought about saying something, but Getzlaf might be one of the most overrated players. The most, I don’t know. It took me a while to figure out who I would think is overrated. But I came to a revelation this morning and it’s the Staal family. They’re way overrated – especially Jordan.

by Wooster11 on Sep 4, 2009 9:25 AM PDT up reply actions

Dion Phaneuf, maybe? I dunno — seems these things fluctuate quite a bit, last summer’s answer might have been Brian Campbell.

But probably it should be someone from the east or from Canada — that’s where most of the ink is being devoted.

It hasn’t taken him very long to earn this title, but I sincerely think Luke Schenn is the most overrated player in the NHL right now…

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a two-year contract

Depth ain’t bad — I don’t suspect Eminger is making any real money this late in the summer. Plus the 2-year seems good — keep that salary low next year, too.

http://www.battleofcali.com/

by Earl Sleek on Sep 4, 2009 3:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Really, that’s officially an awesome signing for that price. I’m not saying that Eminger is a heck of a player, but he should take care that Boynton can’t stay in the lineup if he’s the piece of crap that he can be at times. And even if it wasn’t about that insurance, it would be a good signing because Eminger’s good enough, especially for that money.

I had started one, but then Rudy’s answers were better. I really did write in Henrik Sedin as most underrated and Daniel as most overrated; sorry for the recycled joke.

http://www.battleofcali.com/

by Earl Sleek on Sep 4, 2009 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

That’s an absolute fact, even if I wouldn’t go to the length of calling them most underrated and most overrated. Still, Daniel’s getting too much credit for the pair’s success. Really, all scorers that are playing with premier playmakers are getting too much attention compared to said playmakers.

by Malurous on Sep 4, 2009 8:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t see the point in hand wringing about which one carries the biggest load. Their playing style is heavily predicated upon their on ice/in womb symbiosis.

It’s hard for me to call the guys overrated since they’ve been jokes for what? 80 percent of their careers? I mean, my blog title is basically an elaborate giggle at them.

(It’s pretty hilarious that most reasonable people would think that I was a Kings, Stars and Canucks fan over the years yet I’m a Penguins fan. What can I say? I enjoy creating needless confusion.)
