On the way to right direction

Hi everyone!

We’re on the road and facing tough competition (Columbus, Philadelphia, Detroit, Dallas). First road trip last week was nearly a disaster. Three games and as many losses. We didn’t even get close to win.

When it came to game plan and stupid penalties the duck herd was completely undisciplined during the first road trip. Shorthanded and power play were also totally unacceptable. The goaltending was mediocre. Getzlaf’s line was in asleep and our line was ineffective. Luckily Saku at least got to score couple of goals.

In this business the key to everything is that best players also have to be the best, otherwise you won’t succeed.
Well, then we went home and got the act together. We got two wins in three home games and a loss in SO. Those games gave little hope for better future.

I have to say that this league can be very brutal or on the other hand very generous. The schedule is so tight that when you play well you can win lots of games in short period of time. The coin of course has other side too. When you play poorly, you will get your ass handed to you badly (you’ll get your ass beaten up badly).

During the lose streak the atmosphere among the team is quiet, tense and strained. Few dare to speak or smile. Of course everyone has high pressure, some fear they’ll be sent to minors, someone can be traded or the coach can be fired.
But the fact is that we have to go forward and there’s no point on looking back. One must learn from mistakes and think positively, just do things better and better.
The difficulty of winning in team sport is that you are as exactly as good as the weakest link in your group. It’s not enough that you do your job; it’s a challenge to get your team mates on the same level too.

It was really great to get Lyde back to the rink. Dude scored right away in his first two games and played otherwise well too. We also got Andreas Lilja to reinforce the defense so despite the little initial stiffness we are definitely heading to right direction. It’s good to remember that the season is long and that we too have many good games ahead of us.

So this is with what we are going forward with… later!

this likely includes tons of grammar errors and other mistakes, I apologize

It reads fine, Sleza — excellent work, as usual.

from finnish athletes, and especially from hockey players, his interviews are usually one of the best (my personal opinion)
