Joe Thornton named captain of the Sharks

Boyle will be an alternate and Marleau and Clowe will split time as the other alternate.

This is a fine choice. Thornton is clearly the best player on the Sharks and a really positive personality on and off the ice.

Boyle also weighed in on the contrast between himself and Thornton.

"He’s probably the more positive feedback kind of guy. I’m maybe more of a perfectionist in certain ways and maybe get a little more heated," Boyle said, "but that’s OK. I think it’s a nice balance."

Perhaps as an example, Boyle’s bluntness surfaced earlier when he was asked if he thought Thornton was the right person for the job.

"Yeah, I hope so," he said, before adding that Thornton has been the face of the franchise since he got to San Jose in November 2005.
