Ducks Gameday -- Hard Oiled
Anaheim Ducks (13-13-3) at Edmonton Oilers (10-12-4), 6:30 pm
Anaheim Calling and The Copper & Blue -- guess who's got Lubo + Lupul now.
I'm not in California any more, Ducks. It's okay to score goals again! Oh, wait, you have other plans?

Cartooning methods are a bit more crude from the hotel room.
Stat of the day: The Ducks are 10-6-1 with Andreas Lilja in the lineup, and are 3-7-2 without him. For some unknown reason, he's still awaiting his December debut, and I'm not terribly optimistic he'll be playing today, either.
Prediction: I suppose that the trend of the Ducks getting outscored something to nothing in every period they play in has to come to an end at some point, right? Possibly even today.
Not sure what the story is tonight -- the Vegas job has me pretty damn busy this week. Still, somebody shoot me a link and we'll see if I'm around to use it.
Go Ducks.

I had an uncle at Pearl Harbor. His boat was out running maneuvers at that time so missed the sinkings.

What was pretty bad also is that back then they had to wait almost a week afterwards to find out he was ok. I don’t know why he didn’t just use his cell.
Let's go Ducks.

Well, the Ducks were shut-out the entire time I was in Phoenix and couldn’t watch any games. Maybe now that I’m back and will be watching, they’ll score.

Haha, forced but accurate.
Ducks have me pre-depressed about tonight. I’m already braced for the 2 periods of incompetence, followed by a big Sutton hit or something that’s way too late to be useful but I guess we’re supposed to be excited by anyways.

I honestly can’t believe he’s still in the lineup after how many gaffes he’s had. How does Sutton have such a long leash but other players get benched when a puck bounces over their stick in the offensive zone so they’re unable to get a shot on goal? It at least seems that way to me.
He’s a giant and Carlyle is clearly afraid of him

Last night on NHL On The Fly, Taylor Hall was interviewed and was asked who he believes should be considered for the Calder Trophy. One name that he emphasized: Cam Fowler.
Taylor Morgan: "My abortion was botched!"
Teemu Selanne: "Wow. That sounds awesome."
Cam Fowler? no way jose! Couture!!

Seriously? He’s still a rookie?
I think you should automatically lose Calder consideration based solely on the fact that he’s still a rookie based on technicalities. He played like half the season and playoffs last year for the Sharks.
Don’t whine. Rules are rules and he qualifies … :)

So playoffs don’t count towards the rules, huh? Oh I forget. It’s the Sharks. The playoffs don’t really count for them.

Hey, at least we made the cup finals and won the cup. Besides it got us Fowler thats a good trade imo.

Actually yeah. Its all contained in my <3 for Fowlers skating ability. I’m sure that if we never made the finals or won the cup things would be different….

Winning the cup does make things a whole lot easier.
And seriously, it’s almost better to never make the playoffs than continually make the playoffs and not accomplish anything. It’s just a big tease.

The rule is “More than 25 games in the regular season”.
Besides, if it’s no longer his rookie season, should we consider this his sophomore slump?
"Douglas Murray is a humongous human being." – Drew Remenda
He wasn’t a regular roster player until the playoffs. He was on the Worchester shuttle for a lot of his games played during the regular season: up for a few games, back down in the AHL for a month. That sort of thing.
Jeff Skinner’s rookie campaign has been significantly much more impressive.

Speaking truthfully now, I subscribe to Earl’s “No Major Awards” philosophy for the salary cap era, so I hope Couture doesn’t win the Calder. Give me the Calder-caliber performance, but don’t inflate his salary by winning the actual award.
Fortunately, we’re on the west coast, so our players are easier to overlook.
That’s the spirit. Better to deserve an award than to actually win it.

This is probably the one time where I wouldn’t mind a Flyer winning something, just because if Bob wins the Calder he gets a bonus that contributes to his cap hit for next season, putting the Flyers in even deeper cap hell.

Can anyone tell me what the HELL Getzlaf was doing on the PK? B-Ry and Perry have at least been servicable and occasionally good, but GETZLAF? Really? REALLY???
Oh, and he has a new move now. Pass it to no one. Not even the opposing team. Just push it back in your zone and skate casually off the ice. No one there. Nice close up shot of Hiller looking at the puck as it slides closer with no Duck near it, Oilers closing in. Looked like even he couldn’t believe it.

I was shocked by that as well. I haven’t run individual player scoring rates in a while, but from what I remember from two seasons ago, Getzlaf was regularly awful on the PK.
But why not experiment late in a game with a narrow one-goal lead? It’s not like Carlyle will be here forever, hopefully.
