Hey Kings Republic:

I wanted to share some things I now know about your team:

1. Drew Doughty is insane good. It's a joke. I hope he's a King for life and a really good cocktail is named in his honor.

2. I'm on the Meat Train bandwagon (can trains pull wagons? nevermind). I took a guess before the series we'd secretly fall in love with him. I'm not keeping it a secret.

3. Michal Handzus is severely under-rated.

4. I appreciate you have a GM that actually uses the trade deadline to get post season talent like Modin and Halpern. If he could have a chat with Mike Gillis, it would be just super.

5. I wish Vancouver had a tough son of a bitch shutdown man like Rob Scudari.

6. The Staples Center plays really good music.

7. I dig an entire audience wearing black.

8. I share Rudy's feelings for Ryan Smyth and Randy Jones. I sorry.

9. Quick will learn from this series and, with Bernier right behind him, I don't relish the thought of playing the Kings in the next few seasons.

10. Kopitar? Yeah, see #1 description.

I know it means nothing, but congrats on a good season and giving Vancouver a hell of a scare. Here's to future battles down the road. Cheers.

1) Yup, and he’s only 20, can you believe it?

2) Yup and he’s only 21…

3) He had a very good series on offense but it’s he defense that we come to expect.

4) Modin was a steal, Halpern not so much, I’d still give DL an A for his deadline deals because of what we got out of Modin in this series.

5) You do, it’s too bad (for you) he didn’t play. If Willie Mitchell had played I don’t think the series would have been as close as it was.

6) Agree

7) I thought the white towels ruined the effect.

8) Smyth was OK, but not worth what we’re paying for him. He sure made Luongo look like a stud by shooting the puck right into his raised glove last night… Jones had his ups and downs but the downs were brutal. I think he’s a UFA, maybe Gillis is interested?

9) I’m not sure how I feel about Quick at the moment. I think we may be sitting on a superstar, Ryan Miller level superstar, in Bernier and Quick is just good enought to keep him out of the line up.

10) Kopi’s a gamer, the thought that he, Doughty, Simmons, Richardson (who also had an excellent series) Johnson, and Brown are all 25 or younger got me to sleep last night after a stressful and disappointing evening.

I remember seeing Bernier at the Memorial Cup in Vancouver when he backstopped for the Lewiston Mainiacs. Kid was great. And you’ve got Hickey and Schenn coming up in the system, who both were awesome for Canada in past World Juniors (the same tournament where I first heard the name “Drew Doughty”). And with all the other young studs on your team already, to boot. You guys have the potential to be something great. If your offensive players hit their stride, you resemble the Chicago Blackhawks from two years ago, except with legit goaltending prospects on top. You’ll be back to fight another day. For many years I’d bet.
