Here is a slow-motion video from CSNCA of Douglas Murray's third period hit on Johan Franzen. It was a clean shoulder-to-shoulder check. Franzen complained to the Detroit media that there should have been a 5-minute major penalty called on the play. It looks like he was trying too hard to draw a call.

Hells yeah
What a baby. No wonder Wings fans are all so whiny about the refs when their players act like this. I was at the game too and saw several borderline dives and whining by the Wings. Don’t get me started on the criminal Bertuzzi.
I blame Mickey Redmond
Seriously have you ever heard the guy call a game. Non-stop whine fest the entire game about the officials. When you think about it, this is what Wings fans are raised on, and why they don’t really know what a penalty is and why they always bitch about calls

Agreed. I grew up watching hockey for 15 years as a kid while on vacation in Michigan. Instead of the 2 or 3 games we would get in the Bay Area per month, Michigan would have 2 or 3 a night, including late games that went until after midnight.
I don’t remember Detroit tv being this bad. They spent entire periods going on about officiating, while ignoring any hit or borderline play for a Detroit player. When a slow motion video of a puck off of Zetterberg’s skate showed he lifted his skate and directed it in, the color guy said that is not a good replay because it will go against the Wings. What?
Redmond’s just atrocious. He’s the worst kind of homer there is. I can’t stand the guy.
Of course, Wings fans love him.

Ken Daniels bothers me more. When Bob Miller calls a game, he’ll usually reference a penalty that didn’t get called by saying, “Fans wanted a call there but they’re not gonna get it.” Daniels will say, “[Player] gets hooked but there’s no call,” or, “[Player on opposing team] gets away with a hook.” He’s setting up a false reality that always makes the Wings the victim. It’s no wonder their fans always think the refs are against them. It bothers me more than guys like Brian Hayward or Mickey Redmond because the play-by-play guy should always be unbiased.
The West Coast is the Best Coast.
That's true
Daniels is just as bad. I just find Redmond more irritating. Let’s just agree
They both are abhorrent at their jobs.

True. They’re almost as bad as the Colorado guys.

Pavelski was run over by Abdelkader from the side into the boards right before the Franzen hit. Didn’t think Abdelkader’s hit was worth a call, nor with the Murray hit. Not sure why Detroit fans are hyperventilating.
If anything, Franzen laying on the ice for a minute while allowing a 2-on-1 Marleau and Heatley rush in the other direction was worse. A save by Howard forced a deep defensive zone faceoff, and Patrick Marleau made them pay. Franzen did the same thing trying to draw a penalty in game 2. Just one example in a long list of critical mistakes Detroit made in this series.
Interference? Quite possibly.
Dirty hit? Absolutely not. Shoulder-to-shoulder. Franzen snaps his head back in an attempt to sell it to the zebras, but to no avail. Some people need to start thinking for themselves instead of being told what to think by the likes of Puck Daddy and the Detroit media.

I wonder if he really tried to snap his head back. I’m more inclined to just give credit to Murray for straight-up laying him out. The sell-job IMO is him laying on the ice, spitting out his mouthguard (reminded me of Diego Corrales).

unfortunately even if the Wings look at this in slo-mo, they won’t acknowledge it … you’re suppose to shake hands and move on, but not everyone sees it that way
Ever get the feeling we are on a collision course with reality?

Well, that’s a little rough for a game that happened last night. It’s not like weeks have passed yet.
I’m not complaining about the hit myself, but I think it’s fair to have an opinion on it today.

I’m just a tad tired of the whining … call it the mother in me, but I don’t even tolerate whining from my boys, so I get annoyed when I hear it from others too … :)

Well, we have had to put up with it for two series in a row now. If Chicago’s fans are like this, I might just go off the deep end…

Just think if the Canucks actually end up winning their series. Easily the most whiny fanbase/team by far.

Yep I agree
but I’d rather face the wrath of whininess than the Hawks.

He’s probably just watching the play, but it looks like Murray is giving Franzen a death stare and Franzen’s avoiding eye contact.

Well if we went by those standards then we wouldn’t be in the playoffs. That was a standard big hit in the playoffs. Franzen just isn’t up to snuff
First look, I thought it was for sure a penalty and a dirty hit.
Second look with the slo mo, it is clear it was a clean hit (and amazing that no one has even brought up the hit Stuart layed on Murray later). Agree that it could be interference, but it would have been another weak call in a series full of them.
This was equivalent to Seto staying on the ice after that icing in Colorado. Difference was, the whistle already blew for Seto. Both were trying to sell it, but probably were a little dazed after the hit, but Franzen put his team in a hole for a little bit by trying to sell it. Just wasn’t the best played series for the Wings, particularly when the difference between the teams was razor thin.

It’s been brought up here and there as a kind of “hey, look, no calls went both ways. Hockey is a hitting sport.”
But why would we whine about the refs? The series is over, we won, and even if we hadn’t, who gives a shit. That’s hockey!

Douglas Murray could hurt the Statue of Liberty with a body-check – he’s a force of nature. This hit was clean and awesome.

+1
it was a very awful looking hit for Franzen but I think it was legal and a very nice hit on Murray’s part.

Murray looks big, but he doesn’t look that big.
He must be made of denser material than the rest of us. Maybe he was manufactured by aliens and planted in Sweden. That would explain the name.

Here was the retaliation hit by Stuart, Bertuzzi was in on the play as well. Bodies in front so you cant tell what is going on, but it looked like a massive collision between Stuart and Murray. I think the television cameras missed it. Murray was on the ice for 20 seconds, then headed to the bench with a bloody nose and lip. He told Todd McLellan he was fine.
