Folks on the Leafs Lunch show are saying that Ottawa’s primary motivation for bringing in Gonchar was to appease and perhaps draw more motivation out of Alex Kovalev.

The rumor i keep reading is Kariya back to ANA.
I keep reading Teemu and Koivu are waitng to see if ANA has a contender before they decide.
If both fins and Kariya sign I have to think Blake and Lupul are trade bait for defense, but I’m not sure i would like that Kariya second line more than a line with a combination of Blake and a healthy Lupul.
Either way, we need defense, and the limited few great ones available are going fast it seems.
i dont think anyone wants blake or lupul contracts (the players yes)
i tihnk were stuck with them..which isnt all bad as i think they can contribute

Now (when he went to UFA market) there can be quite pressure, if someone calls and offers a deal. There’s sometimes 10, sometimes 6 but sometimes only 2 hours to decide it. It’s bit of rush and if you say “no thank you” they will move to next option. It’s not an easy situation for Saku.

I love the fact that LA, even with it’s awesome D last season, is trying to upgrade that. That’s pretty smart IMO, but it screws us up a little.
They can address scoring much easier later on, but the Dmen are going fast.
I’m not that worried about it, frankly. So long as teams gleefully overspend, there will be talent available. Poaching isn’t a bad strategy.
