I’m kind of pissed, too. Now instead of being very unworried about a Bobby Ryan offer sheet, I’m quite nervous now.

Really, a spurned Kings team was the only one I was worried about, and Kovalchuk’s unwillingness to actually spurn them gave me some hope.

Still, it could turn out fine — if the Kings trade for Gagne or a Devils forward, then we’re probably in the clear once more.

Depends quite heavily on what plan B becomes. And what IK did sign for — odd that’s still a mystery. Maybe he made the announcement before even finalizing numbers — it’d be cool if Dean pissed him off enough to do that.

It figures. I know us King fans love our team and think they are so great. And think — what free agent wouldn’t love to catch on with a team on the rise. But I’m pretty sure the rest of the hockey world sees us as a perennial loser (read-Clippers). So free agents use us as leverage to get better deals with winning teams like the Devils and Redwings etc. It’s disappointing that this keeps happening to the Kings, but until we put a legitimate winner on the ice, I suspect it’s a trend that will continue. I’m glad Dean stuck to his guns it this instance, however. Go Kings!

Only in the sense that he didn’t sell out the future of the team. Kovi was never going to sign here but if DL did something stupid and gave away the whole slam to get him I might have been more upset. But I hear ya. I ain’t happy about this.

I think that sentiment is a bit of a holdover from his SJ days. I see it repeated often. But the fact is he was willing to bust open the piggybank for Hossa (offering more money than Chicago) and signed Scuderi for what he knew was an overpayment. So I don’t think he was Scroogey here, just realistic.

Parise an RFA, Devils have a ton of $$ coming off the cap next year and if the report on the Kovy cap hit is true ($6mil) Parise will be easy to re-sign.

by drhgzang on Jul 19, 2010 2:01 PM PDT up reply actions

depends on what he wants, doesn’t it? And Andy Greene? I guess it depends who you get rid of to make the cap this year.

Parise will be re-signed, it’s the kind of team that surrounds them that gets iffy.

I’m just hoping he fails in NJ. Despite his obvious talents, I sorta dislike him as a player, and this free agency debacle dragged on forever in the most annoying way possible since that LeBoshWade thing. It’d be nice to see him win 5 scoring titles and 0 Stanley Cups over the next 17 (wtf….) years.

I really don’t know if I believe this, but seems negotiation is getting more and more public all the time:

GM Dean Lombardi’s final offer to Kovalchuck was a 12-yr deal, worth $64 M. in total.

That calcs to a 5.33M hit, right about in Getzlaf territory.
