Some interesting comments by Randy Youngman
So it looks like Randy Youngman has some interesting insight to provide about Teemu and Kariya.
If you take a look at the comments section in his article about rebuilding the defense, you'll notice two comments - one about Teemu and one about Kariya. Based on information that Youngman apparently knows, he's stated the following:
On Teemu

Teemu won't come back to a team that's Rebuilding, he said so in so many words earlier. I'd be surprised if he returned, although I'd like to see him play one more!ryoungman - 2:35 PM on August 5, 2010
I'll be surprised if he doesn't come back, based on everything he told me.
On Kariya

Thanks Randy. I'd expect Rusty to return because Vancouver may need to retain Bieksa going into this season due to an injured blueline. Paul Kariya will be back in my opinion so our favorite Duck Teemu can play on the same line with his two good friends for the next two years. Bobby Ryan to give up number 9? This adds fuel to Bobby being traded. Your thoughts?ryoungman - 2:37 PM on August 5, 2010
I'd be surprised if Kariya came back to the Ducks. Last I heard, he was closer to retiring than playing next season.
I'm a bit surprised that Kariya would actually be leaning towards retirement. He definitely can contribute to any team he's on. I really do think he's still good for 25 goals, which let's be honest, every team could use.
I wonder how much of this we should actually believe. At least it's from a reporter, right?

I’m surprised that a guy named “Randy Youngman” isn’t in the porn industry.
Drew Remenda would praise a bottle of child poison if it had a picture of Darryl Sutter on it.

Haha, I did shake hands with Youngman at the draft and tried to introduce myself as one of the Register’s remaining print subscribers, which is true.
He wasn’t impressed. :)
Youngman’s opinion is okay, but he’s multisport. I’d trust Eric Stephens more by a factor of 10, whenever he chips in on PK’s likelihood of returning.

When we got back to the riser, I actually screamed out to you that I kept my recorder on while Youngman was talking, thus preventing him from getting any fresh stuff out of Fowler. Youngman was exactly two feet from us when I screamed that out if that gives any indication of how much I like Youngman :)

Shall we start taking bets on how long it takes for Bobby Ryan to be traded for D?
We need more Boyntons.
no way…hes home grown..the organization has invested too much tim in him..not gonna get traded unless were talking some crazy hedmen(the tampa guy) or some other great up and coming Dman and that wont happen

Its great that Teemu is coming back for one more season. It would be interesting if anaheim manages to resign Kariya, resign Ryan, and add one more veteran D-Man. All 3 things aren’t going to happen though. If anything i’m guessing 2 things might happen…..1-Bobby Ryan will resign with the ducks right around the time training camp starts or 2-Murray trades Ryan for a veteren blueliner like Bieksa or maybe Souray(which causes some fans to call for murrays head for making a move like that).
Errors have been made. Others will be blamed.

If B-Ry gets traded for anybody 1 year away from UFA, that’s by definition a terrible trade

So yeah, maybe this has been answered, but what exactly happens with all this if Ryan refuses to sign and Murray refuses to trade him?
Rice is great when you're hungry and you want 2000 of something.
I think there’s a Dec. 1st deadline. If he isn’t signed by then, I think he sits out the year.
This is really an AC question, though.

yeah, the CBA has a December 1st deadline. Murray actually pointed that out as far back as January, so for anyone who feels he’s behind his own schedule, he really really isn’t.

Alright, yeah I figured it was more of an AC question, but w/e. And from Scott and Teemu I can gather that this rule doesn’t apply to UFAs. Awesome.
Rice is great when you're hungry and you want 2000 of something.
Well, technically Scott taught us that it doesn’t apply to guys already under contract who feel kind of retirey.

it’s a Group 2 free agent deadline per 11.4. Although, signing any player after December 1st creates tagging and cap issues

If he doesn’t sign by december he will sit on his ass for the rest of the season. maybe he could be like Georges Laraque and endorse a energy drink if that happens(j/k). Muray said that the situation with Wiz was more of a headache……….and that got resolved so hopefully Bobby Ryan will be playing for the ducks come opening night in October.

Things might get amusing though if the Kings or Sharks offered him a contract and anaheim couldn’t match it. Would love to see Barstool Bob’s reaction to that one……..might be more of a foul mouth than Burkie was with the Penner situation.

Oops, didn’t scroll down to your answer. If there’s an unmatchable offer sheet, we’re going to get a shitload of awesome picks. I’m not really against that, on principle.
