Bobby Ryan has signed!
So it looks like Bobby has finally signed. And a 5 year deal too. Worth $25.5 million. It'll be interesting how this is structured and what other perks are in the deal because, seriously, why are they arguing over $100K a year. Maybe he's paid $6 million plus in the last 1 or 2 years which isn't a bad deal. You'd have to assume that both Getzlaf and Perry will be making more at that time too.
Anyway, great news that it got done!

You are half-right. I just finished up a long post, but it has nothing to do with Bobby Ryan at all.
I am thrilled — this is less than I thought it would cost us a year ago, and with the delay I was starting to worry that bigger dollars could get into play.
Now let’s fuck with him and make him captain. :)

[Updated at 10:57 a.m.: According to figures from capgeek.com, which confirms a report from ESPN’s E.J. Hradek, Ryan will be paid $3.25 million in the first season of his new deal (2010-11) and $5,562,500 each of the last four seasons.]
Okay — I’m not sure exactly what that structure accomplishes, except perhaps to give us more spending room this year?

Ryan’s deal does not have either a no-trade clause or no-movement clause. He will be Ducks’ second-highest paid player in ’11-12 and ’12-13.
That’s cash-wise, and number one in those two years at this point is Getzlaf. Perry’s deal was slightly more front-loaded.

Sounds like Souray will be available at half-price through re-entry waivers, and that might not be a terrible option — we’re also at a decent spot in waiver order, I think.
He’d improve the blueline overall for sure, but with Lubo and Souray it’d resemble the bad post-Pronger-recovery Oiler model. At a cheaper cost, though.

Also, sounds like the Devils need to part with some salary for sure — I heard either Colin White or Bryce Salvador is going elsewhere. Plenty of teams still squeezing before the season starts; we shall see.

Oh yeah, I guess Paul Mara is available.

I was happy to see there was no trade announced in the 30 minutes follwing TSN’s article announcing the Bobby deal.
They must be getting slow with offseason rust.

per bobby ryan:
“They would like me to hold down the fort in case one of those guys goes elsewhere,” Ryan said. “The biggest thing for me was trying to figure out where those guys were going to be moving in three years. After speaking with those guys, they are both committed to this team and organization. I felt a lot better doing a five-year deal.”
now we know why
