Last Night's Benchings?

So I'm trying to figure out what RC is doing (Aren't we all?).

Last night, Lupul and Lapierre were benched for the whole 3rd period and OT. I know that they were on the ice when the Senators scored. However, McMillan was on too, yet he wasn't benched. Parros also didn't play at all in the third (punched to the face??). I just don't exactly understand the reasoning here. I know that RC wants to punish players for giving up goals, but I can tell you that Marchant and Sexton sure weren't doing anything out there either. I think Marchant's wrists are now encased in stone (it's going to eventually spread up to the elbows) and Sexton just continues to skate to the outside accomplishing nothing. If he's going to skate to the outside, he's got to beat guys on the outside. He also continues to just lose the puck along the boards because he's just too small to fend off defenders. And Beleskey wasn't very good either - tons of blue line turnovers.

I agree that the Senators should have never scored the goal that they did and the puck should have been cleared out, but it seems like a mighty short leash to put those players on. They didn't even have a chance to redeem themselves.

I did mention the benching also…if i had DVR I’d suffer thru and watch it again..but I think all the ducks seemed a step behind….I hate to blame the cross country travel..but what else could it be?

so it seemed gorilla head tried going with the younger and/or faster legs….to try to keep up with the sens…I dont think it was a punishment thing..although I could be wrong….but the key to my theory is the fact they stuck sbisa and fowler together…

the sens goal to me was a bad play by mara playing soft with the clear….I was yelling at the TV fuckin whack that fuckin puck out of the zone…instead he hesitated..and feebled swiped at it..

I cant remember if lupul and maxim were dogging it…gaywerd did mention that Rc has mentioned he expects more out of lupul and maxim…so maybe your right and he got frustrated and thought they werent playing D or pussy footing it…I have a hard time believing bacon mcmuffin a rook trying to stay on the big club would be pussy footing it….

Sexton made a nice pass to a player in front of the net. Unfortunately that player was Marchant. Maybe if Sexton had someone to pass to…

I dont have a problem with sexton..he seems to scare the shit out of opposing Dmen with his speed…backs them up…its not producing shit yet..but perhaps it will when parros and marchant learn to play with him..i dunno

23 Games Played, 2 goals, 7 assists, -7 rating. That’s pretty crappy. Yes, he’s playing on the fourth line, but he’s not generating enough chances and that’s because he’s still going to the outside too much to take a shot that the goalie catches every time. Don’t get me wrong, I love his speed, but I don’t think he’s utilizing it enough. He needs to just attack players directly or to the middle and not just to the outside. I think defensemen right now know exactly how to play and just guide him to the outside. Sexton just needs to say, “Fuck that!” and skate straight at them or use them as a screen to shoot. Once he starts doing that, it’ll be harder to defend him and he’ll at least generate rebounds and chaos. He’s not going to score with the shots he’s currently taking. There’s no Marty Turco in goal anymore to let him score from the boards at the goal line.

Sexton just sucks. All he has going for him is his speed and he isn’t even using that properly. He is an average stick handler at best and his shot isn’t all that either. I don’t expect much of him because he’s pretty much developed as much as he’s ever going to.

I’m guessing the reason RC didn’t bench McMillan is cuz he’s got wood for defensively responsible forwards.
