Ducks Lossday -- I guess I'm watching this one.

Like I said last post, I've been deleting a lot of Ducks games before watching them lately, to the point where I still don't know who Ben Maxwell is or what number Niklas Hagman wears -- thanks, Carlyle! And until I do watch a game, I'm continuing to lazily abuse image recycling:
But hey -- the niece and nephew that have been controlling my schedule for the past week are headed back to New York this morning, which means I'll theoretically have much more free time to write hockey posts -- let's see if I actually end up using any of it. Of course, I'm going to have a really hard time finding as adorable a set of alarm clocks that goes off so consistently at 5:30 every morning.
And yay (?), I'll be back in Row B for this afternoon's embarrassment, sporting the usual green shirt and probably booing for two periods. If you're at the game, feel free to join me (in booing, obviously). Or just say hi.
What a waste of time and money -- can't wait.
Carlyle is not getting fired, says AC -- they're probably right, so look forward to future posts about (a) who can we draft with the first overall pick?, (b) which competent NHL team should we trade Teemu Selanne to?, and (c) my growing excitement about next year's lockout.
Prediction: I show up, but the Ducks do not. They talk about that in lots of useless meetings with Randy "The Dangers of Job Security" Carlyle, though.

Arthur says we should send Teemu to Winnipeg (hopefully after the hard part of winter); my theory was to send him to Pittsburgh.

I wouldn’t protest, but mostly I want Carlyle out — I’m not sure Murray’s done that terrible on paper, it’s just when Carlyle gets new players they suddenly are the worst ever.

Really? I think Murray has done an awful job, and I would much rather see him gone that Carlyle. I wouldn’t trust him to hire a new coach.
Outside RPG and Teemu we really don’t have much offense. Our defense is alright, though we have a pretty weak third pairing. No doubt our lineup is better than how we’ve been playing, I just don’t think Murray has done a good job assembling a competitive team.
To look at it a much more suggestive way, of the “untouchables” one might list on the Ducks, the only one Murray is responsible for acquiring is Fowler, and most would say that was a gift. Getzlaf, Perry, Hiller, Teemu, Ryan were all brought in before Murray. We’ve had more of a revolving door since Murray became GM than anything else.

The Ducks overachieved last year, riding the hot streaks Visnovsky and Perry. You look fondly on the days when Kariya and Selanne were tearing up the scoresheet, but the Ducks couldn’t afford a team behind them and lost most of those games, anyway. Now they have no defense and their top line isn’t scoring. You need more than one line to win consistently and at least one to win at all. Murray is responsible for that. Also for the fact that Carlyle still has a job.

Apparently the Ducks are only allowed to score against teams playing even worse then they are. I sincerely hope the game hasn’t been as sleep inducingly slow as Wednesday night’s game against the Hawks was.
