Mar 17, 1987

or

Logan Couture

#39 / Center / San Jose Sharks

6-1

Couture’s ability to play center is a definite advantage, but when push comes to shove I have to go with Bobby Ryan. Three straight years of 30+ goals, dynamic skating ability, and sick fucking nasty hands give him the edge.

We’ll see how their defensive ability comes along in the next couple years though (both played over a buck on the PK last year)…

Is it Obvious?

The important part of that question is “for the next 10 years”. I think Ryan is a better player at this moment, but Couture has a ridiculous learning/development curve and we don’t really know how good he will be yet. His salary is a joke (which means he has not demanded market price so far). He is younger and he is better at faceoffs. I honestly don’t know how good Ryan is at defense but Couture is very solid:

I'm glad you point this out

There seems to be a contingent of Ducks fans that believe until Bobby reaaches a point per game that he is somehow just an ovverrated scorer. They don’t seem to care that he had as, any even strength points as anyone else last year and that he gets less PP time (and second unit time at that). The guy led the team in points/60 min last year (even better than Perry) but there sttill seems to be a minority opinion that he’s not a great player.

by PhantomPretender on Aug 31, 2011 12:12 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Actually a lot of fans believed this was the year Ryan surpassed Perry in productivity. Of course I don’t believe he is given as much opportunity as Perry but has been very good thus far. He’s playing on one of the most dominant lines in the league. We can expect more from Ryan, he needs to stop being a passenger on that line and become more of a threat.

by ScottyKnows on Aug 31, 2011 12:29 PM PDT up reply actions

You guys tend to rotate around who you think is the underachiever on that line depending on who has played well recently. It was Perry, then Getzlaf, then Ryan, then Getzlaf again, now probably Perry when he doesn’t score more than 40 goals.

The West Coast is the Best Coast.

by RudyKelly on Aug 31, 2011 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually...

it doesn’t. Couture did not play on a line with 2 NHL all-stars last year, but Ryan did (how does that affect stats?) Couture didn’t because the Sharks had so much talent at forward that they had other solid players to play on the first line, unlike the ducks.

He’s made me jump out of my seat before, but, overall, I just value a high-scoring, defensively-responsible center over a spectacular winger.

In the specific case of the Sharks, though, who have way too many centers now, maybe Ryan would be the better option in the short term.

Well when I ask you to pick between Joe Thornton and Bobby Ryan I know who you’ll pick, but what about Logan Couture vs. Bobby?

by brokenyard on Aug 31, 2011 11:44 AM PDT reply actions

Ran some numbers, just for reference. Argue what you will about ‘em, they’re just numbers. :)

Logan Couture has played 104 regular season games in his career:
37 g, 28 a, 65 pts, +22, 47 PIM, 11 PPG, 295 shots

Bobby Ryan’s first 104 regular season games in his career:
43 g, 36 a, 79 pts, +15, 53 PIM, 14 PPG, 270 shots

If you include playoff games, Couture has played 137 NHL games:
48 g, 35 a, 83 pts, +25, 51 PIM, 12 PPG, 377 shots

Bobby Ryan’s first 137 NHL games, including playoffs:
57 g, 45 a, 102 pts, +14, 61 PIM, 20 PPG, 378 shots

Just eyeballing it, it looks like Bobby played a minutes less overall his first full season (08-09) than Couture did in his first full season (10-11), but that minute is entirely on the PK for Couture so it doesn’t really count for what Earl was looking at.

It would have to bew inactive, it is Oahu. We ain’t gonna do not real volcanoing volcano, so it wouldn’t be perfect. We are going snorkling, I could treat her like the Detroit fans do their octopus and throw her on ice.

I am also thinkinbg of getting her a hanging shell art for their home since they need some decorations, that should be pretty mean.

Let's go Ducks.

Bobby Ryan

way more proven then Couture. I like all you Sharks fans who come on here and are ready to hand Coture the MVP. After one year. and that one year was not better than Bobby Ryan’s year last year.

OHHHHH dream weavehh
