Couture’s ability to play center is a definite advantage, but when push comes to shove I have to go with Bobby Ryan. Three straight years of 30+ goals, dynamic skating ability, and sick fucking nasty hands give him the edge.
We’ll see how their defensive ability comes along in the next couple years though (both played over a buck on the PK last year)…

Of course! There are a ton of real Centers who suck at it, I’m not too bummed that a natural winger can’t. He did a decent jon while Gets was out.
Well, decent enough that he quickly lost the job to Bacon McMuffin, but yeah — I do remember one of those games he was pretty fantastic.

There’s speculation that Pavelski may play wing for Thornton because he’s a right-shot. Who knows, though.

If you’re going to put another guy on Thornton’s wing that takes 250+ shots… shouldn’t it be the one who can actually shoot?
Joe Pavelski shoots a ton despite not being very good at it. He’d take shots away from Patrick Marleau, a guy who is good at shooting. These are the facts.
Pavelski has a shot % of 7.1%, while Couture is dialed in at 12.6
Fun fact: Ehrhoff is at 6.7%, one of these two forwards is way too close to this number.

Yeah, but they kicked the Kings out of the playoffs last year. Ducks have never even had an impact on the Kings playoff-ness (getting in, staying in)
Remember, amateurs built the ark • Professionals built the Titanic
The Kings did miss the playoffs from 2003 until 2009, and the Ducks made the playoffs five times during that span — Anaheim may have had some impact on the Kings playoff-ness (getting in).

Is it Obvious?
The important part of that question is “for the next 10 years”. I think Ryan is a better player at this moment, but Couture has a ridiculous learning/development curve and we don’t really know how good he will be yet. His salary is a joke (which means he has not demanded market price so far). He is younger and he is better at faceoffs. I honestly don’t know how good Ryan is at defense but Couture is very solid:
Let’s also not forget that the Sharks had more talented forwards last season than the ducks. Couture didn’t even play on the top powerplay unit and he still scored 32 goals.

I'm glad you point this out
There seems to be a contingent of Ducks fans that believe until Bobby reaaches a point per game that he is somehow just an ovverrated scorer. They don’t seem to care that he had as, any even strength points as anyone else last year and that he gets less PP time (and second unit time at that). The guy led the team in points/60 min last year (even better than Perry) but there sttill seems to be a minority opinion that he’s not a great player.
by PhantomPretender on Aug 31, 2011 12:12 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
Actually a lot of fans believed this was the year Ryan surpassed Perry in productivity. Of course I don’t believe he is given as much opportunity as Perry but has been very good thus far. He’s playing on one of the most dominant lines in the league. We can expect more from Ryan, he needs to stop being a passenger on that line and become more of a threat.
by ScottyKnows on Aug 31, 2011 12:29 PM PDT up reply actions
You guys tend to rotate around who you think is the underachiever on that line depending on who has played well recently. It was Perry, then Getzlaf, then Ryan, then Getzlaf again, now probably Perry when he doesn’t score more than 40 goals.
Nah, the other two have always been dominant. I just expected Ryan to make a bigger step last season. I’m not disappointed with, I just think he hasn’t come close to his true potential.

Actually...
it doesn’t. Couture did not play on a line with 2 NHL all-stars last year, but Ryan did (how does that affect stats?) Couture didn’t because the Sharks had so much talent at forward that they had other solid players to play on the first line, unlike the ducks.

How could I panic? I can’t see how next year’s start could be worse than this year’s. The bar’s pretty low for the first handful of games.
www.battleofcali.com
I have no problem with the same start as last year. We are like the kids that forget everything they learned over the summer.

I don’t think the one on AC works, if you’re interested.

If you want unbiased answers you should ask it of fans at, for example, Winging it in Motown, where both of these teams are hated.
He's fancy. He'll go glove.
They’d pick Couture as well, he’s scored on them a lot in his short career.

The question is whether Belak killed himself or died of some degenerative brain condition….
Yep, those are the only 2 options.
I doubt he died of some normal thing…. you think it’s a coincidence that 3 heavy weights passed away this summer?
Well I don’t think it was a serial killer or a suicide pact so…. yes?
Also, Rypien wasn’t a heavy weight.

Gawd Albert, Suicide is illegal, everyone knows that. Hockey players are law abiding citizens.
Sorry, I’m ashamed.

I think he's just boring right now because it's the off-season.
I like when he says stuff like:
Congratulations to Chris Osgood on a great career. And thank you for letting me score my first NHL goal on you! #flutterfivehole
and
Almost fell off the bench watching Cloweys shootout move. Nasty. Amber Alert, MISSING-Kippers Jock Stap. Back to SJ tonight! Great roadie.

Eek I just found out that one of my friends here is a Red Wings fan. What should I do? The only thing I can think of is short sheet the bed but that seems too nice.
Let's go Ducks.
You should probably say, “Hey, you’re a Wings fan. That’s cool. I like the Ducks. Wanna go snorkeling?”
You people are weirdos.
That’s an excellent setup for some murder.

It would have to bew inactive, it is Oahu. We ain’t gonna do not real volcanoing volcano, so it wouldn’t be perfect. We are going snorkling, I could treat her like the Detroit fans do their octopus and throw her on ice.
I am also thinkinbg of getting her a hanging shell art for their home since they need some decorations, that should be pretty mean.
Let's go Ducks.
volcanoing
I think that term is used differently than for an actual volcano eruption.

way more proven then Couture. I like all you Sharks fans who come on here and are ready to hand Coture the MVP. After one year. and that one year was not better than Bobby Ryan’s year last year.
