After seeing the recap of last night's version of Ducks-Sharks, and that the Ducks were outshot by 35. It made me curious about the Ducks' start so far this preseason, and how it matched up with last season. I'm going to take a very premature, superficial, and lazy approach, with a cue from that -35 shot differential, and over-analyze a small sample of shot totals and results. In truly lazy fashion, I'm just going to throw some numbers at you, and let you guys handle the interpretation/analysis. Really, I just wanted to see the data side-by-side, and figured maybe someone else might like to see it, since I looked it up. Here we go... after the jump.

The stats are trending in the wrong direction, shots-for going down and shots against going up. Point to note for comparison below, is the 6 goals on 64 shots (9.4%) for the Ducks and 18 goals on 114 shots (15.8%) for their opponents. So what about last year?

Well, the ducks managed to win two of those, despite a much more horrible disparity in shots. Look at those percentages, Ducks 11 goals on 61 (18%), and the opponents 10 on 124 (8.1%). Of course I'm not taking into account who was in goal (I know I saw Tabasco Sauce's name in there), but that would require real research, and it's too early for that on a Saturday morning.
