Summer was ruined – a long rehab ahead now
Hi everyone, a lot has happened during previous months. And unfortunately they’ve been mostly negative.
My left hip was operated last week in Los Angeles. The operation was kind of big and now I face long and tough rehab. If everything goes perfectly, I might be training on the ice in 3 months. Or not.
Let’s have quick review of how we got here. The hip bothered me already during last season and I missed 17 games because of that. During the summer it refused to get better and then It was time to do something. We looked for suitable doctor in many places; in Finland, USA and Belgium for example. The x-rays of my hip were sent to at least 10 different doctors.
I came back to San Jose already in August with my family. They tried to heal the hip with shots, but it didn’t work. Eventually we ended up with surgery and I chose a doctor in Los Angeles. The doctor who operated me was very optimistic. He thinks the hip will be great and that I can train on the ice after 12 weeks – 3 months – from the surgery.
The rehab has to go perfectly, if I’m on the ice in 3 months. But let’s wait and see, the most important thing is to stay positive.
I’ll be walking with crutches for couple of weeks, but we started to give the hip a little pressure at the beginning of this week. Rehab takes a lot of work. First you need to get the trajectories work properly and get the strength back.
At first my training will be among other things pool aerobics; I’ll also get familiar with ice bags and the exercises of team’s physiotherapists. If measured by time, I’ll spend as much time at the arena than normally. I won’t have to travel so I try to give some time to my family.
I’ll take the rehab slowly for 6 weeks, and then it’s probably time to add speed and pressure.
Have a nice autumn everyone!
poor thing, i hope he gets better soon :/

Yeah you could have saved time and just summarized this whole thing as “Thomas Greiss has started performing voodoo and it’s going really well.”

Is Niemi injured as well?
"Playin hurt, baby that don't faze me. I don't got time for pain. The only pain I've got time for is the pain I put on fools who don't know what time it is!"
Niemi still hasn’t practiced since having a cyst removed ahead of training camp, but Sharks coach Todd McLellan has indicated that Niemi is on track to be available October 8, when the regular season opens for San Jose, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Hm, it looks like they play the Kings in Anaheim on Sept 30, and then they play Jokerit in Helsinki on Oct 4, so I’m guessing they will leave on Oct 1 or 2?
