can someone enlighten me..I sat down at happy hour at buffalo wild wings (during the week i have to watch there cuz my new place doesnt have cable…boo hoo) and the ducks game was 3-1……why did we give up 3 goals?

from what I watched the ducks played hard…good to see smellypants back..and seriously all those jason blake haters can suck it…only guy out there with any speed…and hustling his arse off..

bonino looks aggressive too…

i still don’t like Blake.
he can hustle all he wants, but quite frankly, he kills the Topline. He still has a real bad desicion making with the puck, and he can’t really contribute to the cycling game of the twins.

put Hagman back up there, or better, let DSP play there.

The top line sucks a lot no matter who goes there. I blame the bald guy.

ye exactly, it’s Getzlafs fault, we should aquire an center in the skillleague of Blake and we are fine …. ,

by Freakle on Feb 22, 2012 6:07 AM PST up reply actions

Well, he could find his teammates on their way to the net instead of circling to some random corner.

Teemu can score with Andrew Ebbett, but Getzlaf needs his hand held to be on the scoresheet, I guess.

I do wish Getzlaf had Blake’s plus-minus, or even something on that side of zero.

hey i never said that Getzlafs play doesn’t need improvement this year. but the weak link of this line is Blake on the wing, not Getzlaf

I guess I can take your statement at face value, but I don’t like the implication that with somebody else it’s been strong.

couldn’t hurt.

i’m really impressed with boninos development.

why not give him a shot.

if we fail, it is clear that the ducks are sellers that deadline. i’m really scared that murray just does nothing on the deadline because he wants this team in the playoffs so badly

by Freakle on Feb 22, 2012 6:37 AM PST up reply actions

Shrug — I don’t know that it’s crucial to sell. What do you think we’re missing out on, a low second round pick?

www.battleofcali.com

by Earl Sleek on Feb 22, 2012 6:40 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

yep, i take a low second round pick over an aging winger who can’t score.
blake will soon be gone either way, so i think that 2nd round pick in a deep draft helps the franchise more.

besides, we need rosterspace for DSP and Etem, and i much rather have Hagman on the team than Blake

by Freakle on Feb 22, 2012 8:43 AM PST up reply actions

I thought this was one of the worst drafts in recent years, who said anything about it being deep?

that’s why i would like to see DSP up there. To be fair, i would like to see a Perry clone on that line

www.battleofcali.com

by Earl Sleek on Feb 22, 2012 8:57 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

Not sure if serious

Like I said in the game day thread, he does score. He has been an above point per game player since 2008. Yeah he’s struggling but even the best have a bad year. As far as the lazy argument which will probably be brought up, I just don’t see it. Undisciplined, frustrating but not lazy. The behind the back passes are annoying sometimes but just cause he doesn’t skate fast like Sexton or Blake that makes him lazy? Plus, much like the Sedins, Getz and Perry are probably a package deal. Can’t have one without the other. Trade Getzlaf and I have a feeling Perry won’t be resigning.

I understand the hate, and the signing of him to a multi-year contract in 2010 made me question Wilson’s sanity (in a Billy Beane kind of way), but I’ve gotten past the fact that Niemi is on our team and let’s in some easy goals. He’s our #1, and until otherwise noted, we’ll have to deal with it.

Besides, our defense is a thousand times more terrible than Niemi is right now. Having a PK fourth from last in the league is just awful.

by RedOscar on Feb 22, 2012 9:26 AM PST up reply actions

I don’t think he’s that awful at all. Sure he has a weird stance and gives up some big redbounds sometimes but he’s been able to steal games for the Sharks in the past.

Not the last three.

www.battleofcali.com

by Earl Sleek on Feb 22, 2012 6:59 AM PST up reply actions

On the first goal Umberger was all alone, untouched in front of Niemi, and had several tries at the puck before he put it in. Not Niemi’s fault.

The second goal was on the powerplay for the Blue Jackets, deflected a bit, Niemi maybe could have had it.

The third goal Rick Nash got to shoot a full-strength shot from between the hash marks. No goalie in the league would have been able to stop it.

The Sharks played like shit from top to bottom, expect for Logan Couture.

It isn’t correct or intelligent to blame Niemi alone for the poor performance of the team as a whole.

The insane thing is how the worst team in the league was able to skate circles around the Sharks’ defense.

On the first goal, Niemi is out of position. He ends up sideways to the net while the puck is in front. (its hard to tell from the angle of that video, but I remember it from the opposite side. he shouldn’t end up sideways.)

I’ll give you that the second and third goals are both fast shots and he didn’t have much help from the defense. But they are straight on with no one in front of him, you have to make one of those stops.

Also, I completely agreed that the enitre team played like shit. But Niemi has been playing poorly the past few games now and he is an extremely streaking goaltender so now I’m looking for griess to make the next start. I do dump alot of blame on Niemi because its easy (see: I don’t like him. Trying to but the hate comes easy) and I am quick to throw him under the bus after a poor performance.

So, yes, Niemi does not deserve full blame for the loss but it comes down to a point where your job as the goaltender is to keep the puck out of the net and he let in 3 on 11 shots. None of them were crazy deflections or bounces, they were shots on net without a screen in front of him.

by 4Kills5 on Feb 22, 2012 8:21 AM PST up reply actions

Even if you have 10 breakaways, you still have like a 50/50 chance of stopping each unless it’s Malkin. Just because you allow all 10 doesn’t make you awful. (that’s what my coach always tells me anyway)

by ScottyKnows on Feb 22, 2012 8:51 AM PST up reply actions

The first goal was McGinn’s fault because he stayed with Umberger, leading Vlasic to move away from the net to cover someone else; McGinn then backed away too (maybe he realized he was in Vlasic’s area?), leaving Umberger alone in front of the net. Niemi is complaining to the ref after the goal because Umberger knocked him off balance when he stopped in front. That’s why he kind of ends in an awkward spot.

But they are straight on with no one in front of him, you have to make one of those stops.

The players shooting affect the outcome too. When the players shooting are 2 guys who have averaged 35 goals apiece the last 4 seasons, well…

McLellan isn’t going to watch that tape and say, “Boy, Niemi really let us down.” The team let Niemi down by leaving a man open in front and men open in the slot. Those are the 2 areas you’re going to score in the NHL and they need to be protected much better than that. Niemi didn’t get pulled because he was sucking; he got pulled because the team was sucking.

The West Coast is the Best Coast.

Probably a Kings fan. They did blow the most leads.

Sorry that was me

I just really like things Kings losing, and I can’t believe they let my Yotes score 3 power play goals. That’s our PPGs quota for the rest of the season.

I would definitely say that the Kings’ loss was the most ironic.

still the sharks loss was the most pathetic

Fuck everybody who wants to trade Pavelski or Clowe for Rick Nash!

Clowe sucks, you should do that.

He’s irreplaceable. There are only two Ryane Clowes in the league and the other one just won the Stanley Cup. His point production isn’t phenomenal, but to have a tough guy who can score on the second line is a luxury I’d like to keep. Contracts being equal, I think it might do us some good, but that $7,800,000 cap hit means being even more top heavy than we are.

I’d rather pay for some proven scorers for our third line if it’s not going to be our shutdown line, which I was kinda hoping it would be when we signed Handzus.

Plus, I’m pretty sure Clowe is a big leader in the locker-room for this team, in terms of holding people accountable. I know we want to “win now,” but I wouldn’t bet on Rick Nash stepping in at the very end of this year and leading us to a championship. His contract will be more costly next year, as I understand it, because we will not have accrued a bunch of extra cap space over the course of the season.

Didn’t you pay Heatley similiar money?

by ScottyKnows on Feb 24, 2012 2:36 PM PST up reply actions

yeah, but we’ve added Brent Burns and Martin Havlat since then and frankly I was a much bigger fan of our second Heatley trade than our first one.

Dreger said on Twitter that SJ was pushing hard for Nash, but they wanted Couture in return. Wilson said no.

Plank goes on to FTF and posits that since Couture is off the table,

it would seem as if Joe Pavelski would be the player in question getting moved, barring a complete fleecing by Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson in regards to his current roster assets

I thought the whole point

was to ADD a top 6 winger, not replace one.
