Staring at a wall of green yesterday felt a bit like I was on 'shrooms. There were all these individual characters that made larger patterns, and I couldn't quite focus on one over the other.

I honestly tried writing everything up yesterday, and had a draft saved, but it was crap, and one of the only benefits of getting older is the wisdom to recognize mediocre bullshit and avoid it. So I walked away.

In the shower this morning (where I get most of my actual thinking done) I had a couple insights. Write this down, pupils of Buddhism. First, the Sharks have gone from a parody of a good team to a parody of a bad team. Second, almost nobody is truly ashamed of their past.

Back in the teeth of the aughts, I had a "shameful music" house party. You had to bring a song that at one point you genuinely liked, but were now ashamed of. And not, like, when you were a little kid and had no particular reason for liking a stupid song. But a song from post-puberty, when presumably your taste in music reflected something about your personality.

It was a fun party, but it was less a shared laugh at an embarrassing phase from their past, and more of a "guilty pleasure" party. Nobody was actually ashamed at liking Ace of Base. They still kind of liked Ace of Base, even if they said they were mortified at having played their cassette so much it broke.
