San Jose Sharks (43-12-10) at St. Louis Blues (30-28-8)
5:30 PST
Ok, one semi-coherent victory does not end a slump. You gotta play one complete period, then one complete game, then a series of strong games. Still, this team has shown the ability to bounce back quite a bit this year.
Todd McLellan wants the Sharks to shake off their previous identity as losers and get their own sense of pride to carry them through this slump. So instead of the usual Gameday stuff, let's take a pep talk from one of the greatest movies of all time: Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness (AKA Evil Dead 3). I couldn't find a clip of Ash's motivational speech, so instead I've lifted it into a Sharks version. If you've seen the movie, then you'll know exactly where this fits in. If you haven't, well, seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?
Alexei Semenov: We could be safe in the second round.
Christian Ehrhoff: Yes! Yes! The second round! We must flee!
Rob Blake: It is written, Todd. It has been foretold.
Marcel Goc: They'll take our souls.
Semenov: I'm afraid.
Goc: They'll swallow our souls.
Semenov: I don't want to die.
(BOOM)
Patrick Marleau: That's it. Go ahead and run. Run home and cry to mama. Me! I'm through runnin'. I say we stay here and fight it out!
Todd McLellan: Are all team captains loud mouth braggarts?
Marleau: Nope. Just me baby... just me.
McLellan: How will we fight an army of Red Wings in the standings? How will you fight that? More words? Most of our players are already injured! We are but eight NHL-quality forwards.
Marleau: Then we'll get Travis Moen and Kent Huskins to fight with us. Now...Who's with me?{awkward pause}
Joe Thornton: I'll stand by ya.
Joe Pavelski: You can count on my steel.
Dan Boyle: I'll offer up my courage.
Rob Blake: Me skate's by his side.
Ryan Clowe: I'm with you.
Brad Lukowich: Aye, my stick to ya will sir.
Crowd: {now cheering} Ya! Ya! Hail! Hail!
