Sharks Gameday: A Modest Proposal

New, 24 comments

Comrades, we have a serious problem. The San Jose Sharks are once again the most-traveled team in the NHL, forced to fly further and more often than anyone else. They switch time zones constantly and have fewer non-travel days than most other teams. Clearly, this is unfair. Something needs to be done, but there has never been a clear solution to this complex scheduling problem. Until now.

I present my proposal for the 2011-2012 NHL Season Schedule for the San Jose Sharks:

Games 1 - 41: San Jose @ Edmonton

Games 42 - 82 Edmonton @ San Jose

I think we can all agree that this would be fair and awesome.

If you didn't watch last night's game I highly encourage you to check out the highlights here. In particular I suggest you watch Dany Heatley's amazing deflection goal. It's also fun to watch all the Sharks goals and notice how many times you see Jordan Eberle screwing up. That dude had a rough game, despite scoring Edmonton's only goal.

The Sharks continue their Northwest Division trip this evening against the Calgary "Not as terrible as you'd think but by no stretch of the imagination good" Flames. Since this is a back-to-back situation with less than 24 hours between games it's pretty certain that Niemi will start, which should be fine. It looked like the Sharks found their offense last night, and if they can keep that up it should be more than enough to cover for any goaltending issues. Going forward, however, I think Niittymaki should be given the bulk of the starts. It's obvious that he is a better fit for the team.

Prediction: Sharks win 4 -2, with goals from Heatley, Pavelski, Couture, and Clowe.
