Dude is born into hardship. In a sport where almost everyone is upper middle class, he has to wear skates sizes too big because his folks can't afford more than one set of gear for him and his brothers. He works hard and ends up making it to Junior hockey. He works even harder and gets drafted into the NHL. He works even harder and breaks into the league at 19, even though most viewed him as a project when he was drafted. Once in the NHL, he sets an example for his teammates and becomes the pinnacle of a grit, hard work, and sportsmanship.
But he's black so fuck him, right?
Seriously, what the fuck is that shit. Wayne was of course reasonable and said the following:
I guess it’s something I obviously have to deal with _ being a black player playing a predominantly white sport. I’ve grown a lot playing in this league and throughout my whole life. I’m not going to dwell on that. It’s over with now.
I get that Wayne is going to be the bigger man in all this. I mean, he's a millionaire and a great kid and he's worked so hard to get where he is that he doesn't have to give a fuck about what some dipshit does to try to make Wayne feel as small as said dipshit most likely feels all the time. I get that.
That doesn't mean that I have to let it slide, though, right?
