Admittedly, I haven't been following hockey as closely as I usually do, due to this long and grueling lockout. But it still came as a shock to me that apparently the Senators had some sort of off-cycle entry draft Tuesday night that I had absolutely no idea about.
I'm not exactly sure what the rules are regarding these types of drafts, or if the lack of a current CBA is why this sort of thing can happen, but I do know that the Sens picked up 9 new bodies, and lost some dead weight as well. Here are your newest Senators for the 2012 season (pictured above, from left to right, starting with top row):
- Elizabeth Warren, Left Wing
- Heidi Heitkamp, Left Wing
- Angus King, Center
- Joe Donnelly, Left Wing
- Tammy Baldwin, Left Wing
- Jeff Flake, Right Wing
- Chris Murphy, Left Wing
- Tim Kaine, Left Wing
- Deb Fischer, Right Wing
It's odd that the Senators would load up so heavy on wingers, but again, I haven't been following hockey too closely lately, and I certainly don't bother keeping up to date on the Senators.
Anybody have any insight on these picks?
