Ducks Gameday: Why Do They Hate Arthur Staple?

New, 32 comments

Isles fans have a weird relationship with the team's beat writer, apparently. Ducks @ Islanders.

If you're an Islanders fan, you probably have a lot to be angry about. And when you have so much to be angry about, I guess you start to find creative ways to vent that anger.

Vitriol towards your team's beat writer is one creative way, I suppose.

I noticed this tweet sent out by Daniel Friedman (@DFriedmanOnNYI), an NYI columnist, in defense of beat writer Arthur Staple (@StapeNewsday):

I don't know anything about Staple, other than the obvious fact that he writes about the Isles, so I had no idea why he would be getting any heat. I decided to take a look, and apparently the reason is "just because."

Here's a collection of a few of those "hounding" Arthur Staple:

So basically it seems like the sentiment is "Hey this team sucks real bad why aren't you constantly reminding us of how bad and why the team sucks so bad?"

To which the obvious answer is, of course, "because I'm a beat writer and that's not my fucking job, nor would that fix this shithole team or even be interesting to read every day. Asshole."

He went with the much classier response:

That's no way to criticize your fanbase, you jackass! How will you expect them to ever learn unless you put out a hit piece about how horrible they are?!?

God no wonder they hate this guy.

Gameday Prediction

Ducks 4-2, Arthur Staple with the game winning goal.

Classic Moment

To help commemorate the Ducks' 20th year this season, each gameday I'll be posting a clip of a classic moment from the team's history against that night's opponent. Here is today's...
