Today is the trade deadline!
Of course those stupid GMs ruined things by making a bunch of their deals over the past week, so there might not be that much to talk about today, but still...
Comment here on any deals that DO go down, the deals teams have already made, and about what kind of bread you like to eat.
I think sourdough is the best bread. You can have a different opinion if you enjoy being wrong.
Today's book is Slaughterhouse Five, one of the most quotable books in history:
"Trout, incidentally, had written a book about a money tree. It had twenty-dollar bills for leaves. Its flowers were government bonds. Its fruit was diamonds. It attracted human beings who killed each other around the roots and made very good fertilizer."
"Well, here we are, Mr. Pilgrim, trapped in the amber of this moment. There is no why."
"How nice -- to feel nothing, and still get full credit for being alive."
"America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves.... It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters."
"Goodness me, the clock has struck-
Alackday, and fuck my luck."
We've almost reached the final ten games of the season, when I will count down my ten favorite books in order. The rest of these books haven't been in any particular order, but Slaughterhouse Five is probably my favorite that isn't in the top ten.
The Sharks play the Minnesota Wild tonight. San Jose did the Wild a favor by beating the Canucks on Monday and giving the Wild a bit of breathing room on top of the Northwest division, so the Sharks need to beat the Wild to keep things fair and even.
The way they've been playing lately, I think they can do it.
Prediction: The Sharks win 1-0, with the goal coming from Ryane Clowe.
