The San Jose Sharks look to complete their first-ever playoff sweep against the Vancouver Canucks tonight. In Game 3 the Sharks took advantage of a lack of discipline by the Canucks skaters and a lack of...I don't know..."goodness" by Cory Schneider.
Schneider sucked, is what I'm trying to say, and the whole team acted like babies and took penalties and paid the price.
I wrote a GIF-tastic summary of the third period for the SB Nation frontpage if you want to relive the magic of Game 3, but then make sure you come back to this article afterwards because we have some work to do.
The Canucks may win tonight, and they might even stage a comeback in this series (though it isn't likely) but it is clear from the way the series has unfolded thus far that they are NOT the team they once were. The Canucks are fading even faster than I anticipated. Their goalie of the future has a mysterious body injury and played like garbage in a huge game, the twin stars that have led the way for them for a decade are barely able to generate anything at all offensively, and the only thing their young players are good for is taking penalties.
Vancouver is going to lose in the playoffs AGAIN and then next year they're going to have to play in a division with the Sharks and the Kings. The Canucks won't win another division title for a long time, which means they'll be a lower seed facing tougher early-round playoff competition as they get worse and worse each year until they finally miss the playoffs entirely.
So, yeah, that's going to be pretty sweet.
As a team that has been a Western Conference power for years, and a team that has a reputation for diving, dirty play, and general dickishness, the Canucks have made plenty of enemies. And that's where YOU come in.
I would like to put together a collection of comments from fans of as many different teams as possible expressing their feelings about the Canucks as they stand poised for their worst playoff performance since 2001.
Here's an example of what I'm looking for:
Dear Canucks,
Thanks for sharing the "playoff disappointment" label with the Sharks for so long - but since you seem to want it so badly you can keep it, okay?
I hope you cry so much you suffer extreme dehydration, but the only thing you have to drink is blended cactus and dog turds.
-Meg, a Sharks fan.
Help me show the Canucks how popular they are around the league. Post your "tributes" in the comments, along with something letting us know what team you cheer for.
We all know which team you cheer against.
Prediction: Roberto Luongo starts in net, but so does Antti Niemi. Sharks win 1-0.
