Hi everyone! With the start of the season rapidly approaching, we here at the Battle of California thought it would be a good time to get back together for another round of Circle of Jerks. It's been a long, lonely summer and I know I have been looking forward to this for some time. Mr. Jer took some time out of his busy day from giving his baby tattoos and meth (like every good parent should) to answer some questions about the Ducks and their upcoming campaign. Here's the LOAD of answers:
#1: Dustin Penner has been a bit of a headache already for the Ducks. Concerned about that left wing depth?
I wasn't much of a serious fan of the Penner contract to start with (other than the how much it upset a minority of Kings fans). Penner is lazy and is only worth looking at during the playoffs. I don't have much confidence that we'll see with him in Anaheim anything like what we saw out of him in Edmonton when he was briefly useful. He might have been a great pickup for us at a trade deadline heading in to the playoffs, but even then we'd probably have to way overpay for him. I'd love to be proven wrong by Penner, but I don't find it likely.
So yeah, I guess I'm a little concerned about that left wing depth.
Yeah, that Dustin Penner sure is a piece of shit. Glad my team never associated with him. We have respectable guys like Carcillo and King.
#2: With Sheldon Souray hurt, and Francois Beauchemin coming off of a surgery, do you think Cam Fowler is ready for bigger minutes and actual responsibilities?
Fowler is certainly starting to mature a bit, and looked a whole lot better after he recovered from his injury last season. I don't think he'll ever live up to be the the Niedermayer replacement that so many of us thought he would be, but those expectations were always unreasonable anyway. As far as bigger minutes, he's already averaged 20:26 per game last season, I'd be weary about utilizing him too much more than that this season. Unless maybe a full, healthy run shows that his game has really ramped up. Luckily, it's looking like Beauchemin may in fact be ready by the start of the season. That's surprising and I'm still a little skeptical, but hopefully it works out.
Nope, your stuck with Fowler for 30 minutes a game. Sorry. (#CamSucks)
#3: I checked the weather for the outdoor Kings-Ducks game at Dodger Stadium and it is estimated to be 58 degrees. Do you think they will cancel the game?
From the idiot Minnesota perspective: ARE THEY CRAZY? That kind of heat will never work for an outdoor hockey game because I'm too dumb to look up how these things work and science is stupid!!!
From the California perspective: ARE THEY CRAZY? How the fuck am I supposed to stay outdoors for three hours in those kinds of freezing conditions?!?
I just hope all that ice melts before baseball season for the Dodgers. Playing on ice is dangerous.
