Ducks Gameday: Readers Are Revolting

New, 9 comments

They're truly disgusting. Ducks @ Blackhawks.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Before the Ducks continue their fantastic losing streak tonight against the Blackhawks, let's take a look a behind-the-scenes look at Battle of California.

Many of you likely read Dunn's thug-apologist piece on Dustin Brown yesterday, and apparently this made a few of you sniffle. Some of this was expressed by the typical means of signing up for an SB Nation account just to let the world know that you don't understand what Battle of California is about, exemplified by Mr. Dekeorama:

Wow

That’s pretty reckless commentary on your part. McDavid may play for the competition but he is an elite talent that only helps promote the game of hockey in North America and in California that is only a good thing for hockey fans. I would also guess that if any fan base could assess talent against Wayne Gretzky it would be Edmonton. Having a goaltender rob him, or a shut down line suppress his opportunities is one thing; but wishing Dustin Brown on him is just poor sportsmanship, even if it was a poor attempt at tongue in cheek.
Deliberately hurting any player is just poor sportsmanship, the game of hockey has always separated itself because of it’s ability to be rough and fast but be strongly rooted in good sportsmanship. I know this is not a natural mental position for Americans to have, where win at all costs is revered and decency and sportsmanship is viewed as a weakness. Perhaps this is why hockey has been slow when it comes to acceptance by American sports fans, they love the fights but hate the handshakes.
The Kings are off to a poor start, the fanbase is angry and this is the kind of commentary we get. Be better than this!!

... Really, I'd recommend reading the whole comment section, as it is an entire disastrous goldmine, including tweets chronicled by Ian.

But not everyone goes public with their disdain. A reader who is almost certainly one of the same idiots who commented on the post also used the archaic means of email to lodge a formal complaint...

I have editorial feedback

I just read http://www.battleofcali.com/2015/10/25/9609666/los-angeles-kings-gameday-fulfill-your-dustiny-dustin-brown-connor-mcdavid-edmonton-oilers?utm_campaign=notdeadryandunn&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

What kind of idiots write and approve of this dribble. So much for informed, educated sports opinion. I have written the advertisers on that page to let them know that I will NOT be purchasing their product because the article is so moronic.

This important editorial feedback was sent to both me and Vox Media, who certainly are both very concerned about Mr. Dunn's blogging conduct.

Being a responsible Editor, I immediately rectified the situation...

Dear Mr. Hiller,

As of this writing I have not received a reply, so presumably this satisfied D. Hiller.

Hopefully the letter he wrote to our advertisers works, because it'd be nice to not have to deal with pickup truck ads every time I visit my own site.
