Ducks Gameday: So Long, Devante Smith-Pelly

Seeing Smith-Pelly off before tonight's Senators @ Ducks game.

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The Ducks are playing the Senators tonight, but as is typical for Ottawa, I'd like to talk about two other Canadian teams instead.

News broke yesterday that Devante Smith-Pelly was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Jiri Sekac. Some Montreal fans appear none too pleased with this trade, but I'm sad to see Smith-Pelly go.

And Smith-Pelly might also be a little sad about his new destination.

Smith-Pelly grew up in Scarborough, Ontario which Wikipedia assures me is in Canada. But more importantly, Scarborough is "is a district and former municipality within the eastern part of the city of Toronto."

Having grown up in what is essentially Toronto, I wonder if Smith-Pelly has any specific allegiances...

Uh-oh. Looks like the Raptors (who Smith-Pelly regularly speaks highly of) aren't the only Toronto team that is close to Smith-Pelly's heart.

Smith-Pelly is living his hell.

(You know, so long as his hell includes being paid millions of dollars for playing a game he loves in one of the game's most storied franchises and a current contender).
