Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin are two very good hockey players. They were paid like two very good hockey players. Their last contracts though were absolute travesties.
2011 saw the ultimate failure of the Vancouver Canucks. It was glorious. 2012 and 2013 brought the window down on the Canucks current chances for good, following first round ass whoopings from the Kings and Sharks. The Canucks inexplicably gave out their dueling Sedin contracts that Fall of 2013. Yes, following the second consecutive first round beating. Vancouver has made the playoffs once since then (in the fluke season of 2015). They are on pace to miss the playoffs again.
The window was slammed shut via the California choke slams. Giving out a four year, seven million dollar a year deal to a guy who is going to be 34 would seem like a controversial move. Certainly after two first round beatings. Plus there is a No Movement Clause. The Canucks did two of these.
Trading one of these contracts would seem like a tall order. With the NMC, you could probably say it is impossible. To get them to potentially waive those, you would have to expect both Sedins would have to go in the same deal to the same team.
Vancouver locked themselves in with the Sedins, knowing full well they were losing ground in their division, with insane cash and term. Instead of a rebuild, Vancouver brought in Loui Eriksson, Brandon Sutter, Erik Gudbransson, and Ryan Miller. Lord knows I am forgetting a plethora of one-year signings probably.
The rebuild is delayed. They have four playoff wins in six seasons since the Failing Sedins inspired riots. The Sedins have been unmovable, and will remain unmovable, all while the franchise spun their wheels trying to make these seasons competitive for these weird ass looking twins. What a fuckin’ waste of fuckin’ time.
The greed of the Sedins has ruined Vancouver. There are no championships. No parades. Even their farm team, the Utica Comets, came up short against the Kings’ affiliate. Probably because the Sedins were too busy trying to make their crap-shoot 2015 season worthwhile and stole all the talented assets from the AHL team.
If I’m the Canucks, I bench them for the remainder of the season. No more bowing before these tennis-ball head gingers. Take a stand.
